ABOUT

On this page you can discover more about me and my artwork

I am a self-taught artist and I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember.  When I was a child I painted in oils using a palette knife having been influenced by the artist Nancy Kominski who had a painting programme on television at time.

However, I gradually developed my own style of working and ditched the palette knife in favour of brushes which were much better suited to the detailed work I evolved into creating.

After graduating from palette knife to brushes I continued to work in oils for many years in tandem with watercolours.

At this time I painted landscape subjects associated with history and heritage, such as castles, historic buildings and typical traditional British scenes.  This was inspired by my interest in history which was the direction my career lead, obtaining a BA (Hons) and MA in the subject and subsequently working as a freelance genealogist, historian and tutor.

Another career path followed and for two and a half years I owned and ran a small gallery in Lytham. Along with my own artwork, prints, cards and other items, I sold the work of other artists and different mediums such as glasswork and ceramics.

A number of years ago I moved away from oils and adopted acrylics but still sometimes worked in watercolours.

Frequent visits to the Isle of Anglesey in recent years have inspired me to paint the wide open spaces of seascapes although landscapes, have not been neglected.

I rarely work in watercolours now, but I have begun to use oils on occasion once again.

For many years I was an active member of the local art society where I regularly exhibited my work in their exhibitions.

In addition I have had a number of successful solo exhibitions and carried out commissions for various clients.

Recently I have begun to sell merchandise, featuring images of my paintings, such as prints, cards, coasters, mugs, tea towels, magnets, key rings and bags, at Art and Craft fairs in my local area.
